How long is the ferry ride to Victoria from Seattle?

We're considering staying for a week in Victoria but are flying into Seattle and arriving about 5pm in the evening. We also have to rent the car and pick up our luggage. I was wandering how long the ferry ride is to Victoria from Seattle and how LATE the ferry departs?How long is the ferry ride to Victoria from Seattle?
It's a 2 3/4 hour ride. But are you aware that the ferry from Seattle to Victoria is a PASSENGER ONLY ferry - which means you wouldn't have a car once you get to Victoria?



The Victoria Clipper is also not a ferry on the Washington State Ferry System so there are nowhere near as many ferry runs. In fact, through May there's only ONE FERRY PER DAY - http://www.clippervacations.com/ferry/fe鈥?/a> and reservations are required.



A far better way to get to Victoria would be to drive up to Tsawwassen, BC and take the passenger and car ferry from there to Victoria. It's a 2 hr 15 min drive from Seattle to Tsawwassen and then an hour and a half ferry ride that runs just about every hour all day long - http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainl鈥?/a> So your total trip time would only be an hour more and you'd have your car with you AND be MUCH more flexible about when you get on the ferry both ways.

How long is the ferry ride to Victoria from Seattle?
It's called the Victoria Clipper, so you should be able to Google all the specific infomation you need by typing it into a Google (or other) search engine.



Generally speaking, the trip is about 4 hours from downtown Seattle to Victoria, and there is one departure early in the morning and another one late in the afternoon--the afternoon trip being mostly to accommodate Canadians going home or tourists who plan to spend an overnight in Victoria.



You can also depart from Port Angeles to Victoria, and there is an early afternoon departure (about 1:30) from Port Angeles. To get to Port Angeles, you take a ferry from either downtown Seattle or Edmonds (about 25 minutes north of downtown) to either Bainbridge Island or Kingston. (These are 30 minute trips on ferries that leave every 45 minutes or so, and then a 75 minute drive to Port Angeles--from Kingston--or a 90 minute drive--from Bainbridge Island). This way you don't have to wait all afternoon for the trip back to Victoria from Seattle, and you get a beautiful drive to boot! You just have to plan it so that you get to Port Angeles in plenty of time to catch that 1:30 ferry. (To be absolutely safe, I'd want to be on board a Washington State ferry no later than 11:00-11:15).



The schedules change depending on time of year, so be sure you have current info for the time of year you are traveling.
It's a 2 hour 45 minute ferry ride from Seattle to Victoria on the Victoria Clipper. Here's a link to their schedule. There's really no need to rent a car in Victoria. Most sites are seen on foot and there are lots of hotels within a very short walk from were the ferries dock. Days Inn is nice %26amp; reasonable %26amp; right across the street from the ferries.
